Doug Mattingly is a multi-talented guitarist, singer and composer working in the Baltimore/Washington, DC area. His varied playing experience includes over 150 live performances each year in addition to numerous studio dates, and work on his own recording projects with the Doug Mattingly Band. He currently has two recordings as that group's leader; 2004's Building a Monastery (Winner- Best Local Album in CityPaper's Best of Baltimore 2006 competition) and 2002's who you are.
Doug's training includes Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Guitar Performance from the University of Southern California's prestigious Thornton School of Music where he was part of the award winning guitar ensemble Superaxe.
After several years working as a guitarist, music director, teacher and songwriter/composer in Los Angeles, Doug returned to his Baltimore roots to be near his family. For several years he held the position of Director of Contemporary Music at Ark & Dove Church in Odenton, performs regularly with wedding/events group Hero, plays his original music both solo and with his dynamic five piece band and is an instructor of guitar, jazz and classical music history, music fundamentals, popular music theory, audio technology and songwriting at both the Community College of Baltimore County and Anne Arundel Community College. Doug is also a member of the Washington Area Musicians Association (WAMA), the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), the Songwriters Association of Washington (SAW), and the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE).
