"If there is one contemporary musician who truly personifies the successful synthesis of the myriad pan-American genres into unconventional and compelling new forms, it is undoubtedly this Peru-born guitarist, composer, and all around music alchemist"
Bio / Background
Recorded live in Miami, the program showcases a variety of South American jazz styles performed by a stellar cast of Latin Jazz musicians featuring: saxophonists Carlos Averhoff (Irakere) & Manuel Valera (G. Rubalcaba), violinist Federico Britos (Charlie Haden, Cachao), percussionist Sammy Figueroa (Miles Davis), bassist/ pianist Richard Drexler and others under the direction of guitarist Richie Zellon. Some of the styles performed in a jazz setting are the afro-Peruvian festejo and lando, the Colombian porro, the Brazilian frevo and samba, and an Argentinean tango tribute to the legendary Astor Piazzolla.
"...Zellon transcends the Cuban and/or Brazilian confines established by most Latin jazz practitioners."- LATIN BEAT
