Bio / Background

Wren Owens began her musical career as a young girl in Atlanta, Georgia. She regularly sang in local productions, community and high school musicals, church and, of course, family gatherings. She was one of the few chosen for the Georgia Governor's Honors program, majoring in drama with a minor in dance, and became a member of both SAG and AFTRA at seventeen.
Wren put her music aside for awhile to pursue a film and television career, which led her to New York City and later, Hollywood. She appeared in countless commercials (i.e. Taco Bell, Levis, Coca Cola) and video and film productions. Wren was a model, dancer, choreographer, and guest-starred on various prime-time network television series, such as "The New WKRP in Cincinatti" with Howard Hesseman, and "Sweet Justice" starring Melissa Gilbert and Cecily Tyson.
↓ more ↓She was a regular on Ted Turner's first-ever cable soap opera, "The Catlins," and hosted a series for Movietime and E! Early movies include, "Little Darlings" directed by Ron Maxwell (Gettysburg) starring Tatum O'Neal and Kristy McNichol, and "The Baron and the Kid," starring Johnny Cash. Wren went on to accept starring roles in such films as the campy "Midnight Kiss," a vampire movie with comedic overtones, and Family Theater's production, "The Visit," portraying a woman with AIDS, and presenting the first film ever to address the special problems women with the disease experience. The short film, available in 17 languages worldwide, has won eight honors, including the "Angel" and "Golden Halo" awards, as well as an Academy award for best in its category.
Wren then ventured into makeup artistry, quickly becoming much sought after and requested by numerous stars and studios. She became the first-assistant to the world renowned body makeup artist, Joanne Gair, creating award-winning makeup designs for ad campaigns such as "Lexus," "Martini & Rossi" and Nestles "Lion Bar". Later, Wren moved on to host "Sunrise with Wren"... a live, morning radio show on WCKR, 92.1 fm, in NY.
Wren's philanthropic nature led her to establish the 501-c-3 not-for-profit known as "The Kiva Connection ~ Nature, Art and a Healthier You" on 120 acres in rural, western New York. It is for, and in support of, this vision that Wren creates and offers others her art...her music. Money she makes from her music, whether performance fees or cd sales, is donated by her to The Kiva Connection.
October of 2003, Chateau Renaissance Winery in Hammondsport, New York put Wren's name and artwork on their gold-medal, award winning brut champagne (Wren's favorite)!
Wren has been "feeling" the rhythms, "hearing" the melodies, and "accepting" the lyrics that flow through her for many years. "The songs just come to me", she says. "Often I wake up in the middle of the night and the words, rhythm, and melody are right there". Wren's music represents much of her life experience, her empathic nature, and true inspiration. Hers are songs with a story, songs that people can relate to and songs filled with emotion. They are happy songs, lonely songs, and sometimes poignant or assertive messages. Wren has been referred to as "our modern day May West," as well as "the new Lena Horne," and "a new-age Petula Clark." Her music has been described as "playfully provocative", "classy sensuality", and "the mix that kicks". With a steady stream of true American blues beneath a fresh blend of classic rock, jazz, and even a touch of swing, the songs of Wren Owens are songs for the ages, and ones that will stand the test of time.
Experience Wren. She will take you back to places you may have been...possibly to places you may wish you have been, and certainly to places you will want to go, again and again and again.
