Bio / Background
We’re very excited and proud to present this CD. Here are the reasons:
William Maestre is an absolutely brilliant and virtuoso pianist, a magnificent composer and a gifted performer, in other words a great talented musician. In this extraordinary CD he invites us to hear his original compositions plenty of the Jazz feelings of one of the best Colombian Jazz Group: Magenta, a high-caliber performing ensemble that features the talents of William Maestre, keyboards and piano player, composer, arranger and director, Roberto Cuao one of Colombian’s top drummers and percussionist, Luis Alfonso Guevara an excellent and virtuoso bass-player, Rafael Sandoval arguably the brightest sax-star of the Colombian new Jazz generation. All of them accomplished musicians and performers with extensive backgrounds.

You can experience the virtuoso soloing of each member and the ensemble mastery of this exceptional group of musicians, which offer exciting and new “tunes” and extraordinary performing for jazz lovers everywhere. From music lovers to music lovers and Jazz fans, in Magenta there's something for everyone.
Maestre was born in the Colombian Caribbean port of Santa Marta in 1963 but moved to Bogotá when he was a child, beginning his musical education when he was 15 years old. Although he loved music, he began other careers at the University, but after a few years made up his mind and took private lessons with different music teachers and spent a few semesters at the prestigious Academia Cristancho in Bogotá.
Jazz was the music he heard at lunchtime while growing up in Bogotá and he became particularly fascinated by it in the 1980's, participating in different groups and festivals. In the late 80's he began what became a long-term association with guitarist Gabriel Rondon
In the early 90's, the best-known Colombian Jazz critic and historian, Carlos Florez Sierra invited William to participate in his television series, to explain different aspects of Jazz and Piano playing. This work led to more public exposure and combined with Maestre's increasing compositional maturity, ended up with the creation of his first band, "Magenta", in 1998. The band recorded its first CD in 1999 and has participated in several local festivals.
