It's a rock album, some say indie rock, some say prog rock, basically it's a guitar driven, feedback enhanced, organized chaos kind of thing.
Bio / Background
Remington Steel Magnolia is the sophomore release from Alabama based indie rockers Western Civ. (and no, "Alabama" is not a misprint!) Not too far from the path they set with their debut project "Regent Kingfish Slumberpad," these songs follow the "stream of conciousness" songwriting approach, yet you can definately hear the bands song craft skills building as they begin to layer different vocals and deeper harmonies into the raw feedback driven sound that their fans have come to expect.
Since the last project was released in Dec. of 2005 Western Civ has been touring through cities such as NYC, Ann Arbor, Chicago, Winston-Salem, St. Louis and Austin during SXSW week.

"Western Civ Is An Undiscovered Gem You're Shocked Hasn't Been Signed Yet! To listen to songs from Western Civ's EP, Regent Kingfish Slumberpad, you instantly see that this is a band that's going places.
↓ more ↓With a knack for writing catchy hooks that stick with you and a certain uniqueness that sets them apart, Western Civ has all the makings for indie music labels to start a bidding war. And I'm betting it happens soon!"

"It might not always come out sounding civilized, but this CD is a winner -- in a strange, Pavement kind of way."

LIVE review posted at StereoactiveNYC.com:
"...Next up was Western Civ. The boys from Alabama played a truly impressive set that went beyond even what we’d seen or heard from them previously. They’ve begun to work in more harmonies and moments of nuanced arrangement that build on what was already an impressive sound. And much like Gold Streets, they played some newer material that has us anxious to hear the new full-length they’re working on. Also, we were happy to learn that the band plans to move to Chapel Hill, NC after the new year, which will put them just a bit closer to New York and will hopefully make it more likely that they’ll be able to return soon."
(Western Civ returned to NYC in March of 2007 to play with NYC indie rockers "Man in Gray" and "Gold Streets" at The Annex on the lower east side)

“This track ("Of Her Many Newfound Splendors" from the debut EP, "Regent Kingfish Slumberpad") is definitely no bubble gum pop, this is real alternative rock. I would love to see these guys live. There is a raw yet well crafted quality here. I highly recommend that people check it out!”
The guys of Western Civ will settle for no less than to bob the heads of every listener they come into contact with on the road or on the air!
