A collection of ballads, blues and pop songs crafted and recorded in traditional acoustic style. "...a fine singing voice, which makes everything he performs sound pretty." -- Dan MacIntosh, Indie-Music Review May 2005
Bio / Background
Born and raised in Southern California, Vern began playing music in the early 60's as the drummer in a garage band performing surf tunes and rock 'n roll at parties and dances. He became interested in the guitar about the same time and, influenced by the folk and rock music of the period, he was writing and performing his songs by the Junior year of high school.
After serving in the army then returning home for a few years, Vern moved to Washington State in 1974 for a different perspective on life than Los Angeles had to offer. There, he became acquainted with country music. In the 1980's Vern performed at numerous clubs, lounges and events throughout Okanogan County as a single act, in various duos and as a member of the band Mountain Depot.
During that period of time Vern also operated a music store (the Midstate Connection) and taught guitar, harmonica and autoharp.
↓ more ↓As house sound technician for the music store, he had the opportunity to work various venues with such acts as Elvin Bishop, Savoy Brown and Junior Cadillac.
Always impressed by the solo efforts of Emitt Rhodes and Paul McCartney, Vern invested in a 244 PortaStudio-based home recording facility in 1982 with the idea to put his music into recordings. While studying recording engineering he began to record demos for local artists and bands.
Presently living in the striking high desert of Tularosa Basin in New Mexico, Vern continues to write and record music. His musical styles range from the Blues to Western, from ballad to rock.
