Intimate Acoustic Music from this powerful Italian guitarist.
Bio / Background
The album features Dalla Vecchia's powerful acoustic guitar, and showcases some of his finest guitar work to date. Increased by Gambetta’s innovative soundscapes, "Grateful" includes contributions from musicians including Martino Coppo (mandolin, octave mandolin) and Stefano Versolato (upright bass).
Recorded at Magister Studio, Italy, "Grateful" captures feelings and melodies that are the heart of Roberto's musical journey: flatpicking guitar with Italian gusto.
Says Roberto Dalla Vecchia: "The recording is completely acoustic and we have tried our best to capture the true tone and sound of my guitar and the other instruments.
Most of the tunes I write are a combination of my love for bluegrass and my love for all the great Italian melodies I have been listening to growing up here".
↓ more ↓"Grateful" features ten tracks, eight of which were written by Roberto Dalla Vecchia including an original adaptation of the popular 19th century Italian song, “Addio mia bella addio” and a fresh arrangement of the fiddle tune "Flowers of Edinburgh".
"It’s always a thrill to play with outstanding musicians," says Dalla Vecchia "Gambetta's guitar playing is full of energy and passion! His enthusiasm and love in all the musical projects he embraces are a constant inspiration for my music."
… a passion for playing guitar
… a musical family
… a musical country
… loving and helping hands along the way
… all the blessings of my life
I am grateful
The Tunes:
TICKET TO CESUNA: Cesuna is a village nestled in the mountains of the Asiago province of Italy. These valleys echo sweet memories of love and friendship.
FLOWERS OF EDINBURGH/ GHOST TO GHOST: duets with Beppe Gambetta. His passion and love in all the musical projects he embraces are a constant inspiration for my music.
GRATEFUL: a sweet melody composed with my three kids in mind. Andrea Valfrè did a wonderful work in "capturing" the true tone of my guitar. Thank you Andrea!
RED ROCK: it’s always a thrill to play with outstanding musicians. Martino and Stefano rock my world with their music and their friendship.
WALTZ FOR MARI: this waltz was written on my Baby Taylor guitar while vacationing in the Austrian Alps. To my wife Marina!
THE ZEBRA / IMPRONTE LONTANE: solo acoustic guitar. I've always liked the challenge of playing flatpicking guitar style without any accompaniment … just me and my guitar.
ADDIO, MIA BELLA ADDIO: originally a marching song sung by Italian soldiers volunteering for war. I've changed the tempo to better suit my hope for a wiser and more peaceful world.
Martino Coppo's octave mandolin really shines on this one.
MAPLE LEAF: I am a huge fan of soundtracks, particularly ones with a strong and haunting theme. Maple Leaf tells the story of the Italian immigrants sailing to Canada in the early 20th century. Imagine their wonder as they first set eyes on the expansive beauty of North America.
"Roberto Dalla Vecchia: a man and his guitar. Roberto is a brilliant, young player of acoustic music with emotions in his playing far exceeding his time on earth. You will know what I mean when you listen to his beautiful instrumental "Grateful".
Roberto Dalla Vecchia is a powerful player and I am sure that you will agree once you have heard him play. This CD has stayed in my changer since I got it and will be on my list of favorites for a long time to come." Steve Kaufman
