Here's an enchanting treat from an extremely talented artist. "Point Alpha" by Steve Vaile is a charming, angelic and delightful album that features piano and synthesizer and has the ability to transport the listener to a better place.
Bio / Background
Steve Vaile's passion is music, so everything this Pacific Northwest native does pretty much connects in some way to music and the music business. Steve was born into a musical family and his mother sang opera and his dad was a lap-steel guitar player in a country band. His first piano compositions were made on his mother's heirloom upright piano. At 7 years old his first piano lessons came from Laurie Pratt, who directed his mom's symphonic choir.
After graduation from chef school in the 70's, Steve and a group of friends planned a trek to South America. Music is an international language. He became an expert at finding a piano in even the smallest of villages. One day in Quito, Ecuador, he went to a grand cathedral and asked the priest if he could play their pipe organ. Steve had played a pipe organ when he worked at the Washington State School for the Blind as a student chauffer during college. The Ecuadorian priest allowed him to play in the sanctuary to his heart's content.
↓ more ↓The old church would never be the same. "I mostly wrote and played my own compositions, but I remember playing old Bob Dylan tunes and I figured if I played really slow and majestically it would sound like 'church music'."
It was 1976, the year of America's Bi-Centennial Celebration and Steve was invited to play at the Diamond Head Crater Festival. He had written two songs on Autoharp and guitar -"Happy Birthday America" and "Dear Crater", for the 3-day rock-fest celebration. A sailboat was chartered for the trip from Maui to Oahu and featured Steve and his bass player jamming on-deck. The sounds of the music attracted whales and dolphins to the side of the sailboat as they sailed between Molokai and Oahu. Steve remembers, "It was a great feeling to have these animals so close. I had never been onstage in front of 50,000 people performing by myself before, but after pleasing the whales and dolphins I figured that playing for a crowd of people would be easy".
After returning to Maui he met John Perry while playing his guitar in a waterfall valley by a stream. John and his girlfriend, Denise were filming a "Save The Whales" documentary. "They were invited to our home studio to hear the piano music we were recording. We ended up putting a white grand piano on the deck the 65' schooner, "The Searunner, for John Perry's film. The event was broadcast with underwater speakers to the whales and dolphins. Paul Warner and Steve used hydrophones to hear the cetaceans. Steve experienced months of post-production in Los Angeles recording studios in addition to many concerts including one at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium with Paul Horn.
Steve returned to the Pacific Northwest to be close to his family who own a record label and state-of-the-art recording studio, Soundtracks Records. There he began recording. Steve released "Crusade Through Stars" in 1985, an electronic experience. In 1992, he released "Point Alpha", a meditation and relaxation CD. "Point Alpha" is used in healing centers, hospices and reached the top-10 list at station CIUT-FM in Toronto. In 1996 he released "Gemstone Butterfly", an adult contemporary pop/rock CD. His work and service is dedicated to raising human consciousness through music and media. This mission is revealed in a his newest release, "Angel", which came about through years of spiritual growth and his understanding that humanity is awakening to the realization that we are One Family. As we realize that we are a global community many opportunities arise for fundamental change in the assessment of who we are as a human family," Steve emphasizes. " As we shift into this higher connection with our Mother Earth, a new consciousness opens unto us like a virgin dawn. We need Heroes, be the Hero now."
Steve has a new release "War or Peace Prayer For The Soldiers" and is currently recording a new CD entitled "Making Connection."
