Bio / Background
This CD has traveled far and wide through the world establishing a new crossover vocal style and compositions for women in ranchera music, normally music from a man's world. It has earned Juanita the title of "High Priestess of Operachi" as dubbed by Hispanic Press.org.
Raised in Mexico, Panama and Spain Juanita's heart is in the mariachi and Classical musical traditions.
She is Classically trained and a pianist, vocalist and enthnomusicologist with musical degrees from Yale, UC Berkeley and the Nice Conservatory of Music in France. Juanita is also a pioneering award winning ranchera composer, the first of few in a mariachi world where women are working hard to establish themselves instrumentally.
