Bio / Background
Pundit Udhav Shankarao Shinde
Udhav Shinde, one of India's top percussionists, has been playing the pakhawaj drum since the age of five, under the guidance of his father, Padmashree Shankar Bapu Apegaonkar. Raised in the Varkari Samprodaya, the musical tradition of the poet saints of Maharashtra, Udhav experienced the richness and power of spiritual music at an early age. He performs as a soloist at India's major music festivals, including the Dhrupad Mela in Varanassi, the Sharanghev Samaroh in Delhi and the Asia Pacific Conference in Pune. As accompanist, he works with the Dagar family, the Gundecha Brothers, and other acclaimed instrumentalists and vocalists. He was recently appointed Senior Guru for pakhawaj by the Indian Government. During his European tours, Udhav is always well received for his warmth, exuberance and mastery.

Judy Rust
Judy Rust began her singing career in the American folk tradition, and then switched to the classical repertoire, including opera, oratorio and lieder. She performed with the Los Angeles Music Center Opera and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, then moved to Belgium to sing with the Vlaamse Opera. She has been a featured soloist in the Vlaamse Opera concert series in repertoire ranging from Rachmaninoff to Alban Berg, and sings oratorio repertoire throughout Europe. Judy has recently completed a tour of Maharashtra with Udhav, where she received high acclaim for her interpretation of Marathi bhajans.
Daniel McBrearty
Daniel McBrearty began playing as a teenager when he was strongly influenced by the master musicians from the American tradition, particularly Johnny Hodges, Coleman Hawkins and Sidney Bechet. Growing up in Wales, he performed professionally from the age of 14, sitting in with swing and New Orleans style bands. He has played in a wide range of musical environments - from being a sideman in funk and soul outfits in London in the mid 90's, to visiting the West of Ireland to take part in traditional music sessions. He has released an album of original music called "DanMcB", and now lives in Belgium, where he performs with the North Side Big Band and as a solo artist. More info: www.danmcb.com
