"It's a TWANG THANG." - Acoustic Country music played with a rock-flair (Elvis meets the Beverly Hillbillies.) Songs about growing up in the DEEP South... As always, this CD has been "Tuckerized" for your listening protection.
Bio / Background
Songs about the South - from two of the South's most inventive song writers - The Tucker Brothers. These songs tell stories about growing up in the deep South in the 60's.
South Florida's favorite "twang" band has opened for Willie Nelson. They have thrilled audiences across South Florida with their energy and enthusiasm. Now you can find out what all the excitement is about on this live recording, featuring some of their best work.
No electric guitars. No fiddle. No banjo. NOT bluegrass. Just catchy, clever, upbeat tunes played on mandolin, acoustic guitar, stand-up bass and a three-piece drum set. Sometimes, less IS more.
The stories behind the songs
----------------------------
"Red Dirt Hill" tells the story of growing up in a small Alabama town on the Chattahoochee river. It is a toe-tapping ode to the South that recalls the joys of rural living.
The movie "Norma Rae", starring Sally Fields, was filmed in Opelika, Alabama, near Auburn University.
↓ more ↓The motel scenes in the movie were filmed at the world-renowned "Golden Cherry" motel, which was managed at that time by Aunt Loudell and Uncle Cell (true story). "Aunt Loudell" is a whimsical telling of how this was seen by the family and neighbors.
Everything changes over time. There's a saying, "You can't go home again" that rings true when your rural hometown gets a Wal-Mart and the local textile mill is closed, leaving many without a job and no hope of finding local employment. "The Homestead's Done Been Sold" is a recollection of simpler days and the high human costs of progress.
"Stefanie" is a simple, catchy tune that was written for a daughter. It will have you humming the melody long after the CD has ended.
"My Little Girl" is a rocking little number about a daughter. The boys really rock on this one!
Imagine your first bicycle ride down a terrifying mountain of a hill. The terror that such an event can instill in the minds of two young brothers. Or better yet, check out "Thrill Hill", the song that recounts every detail of that very event.
"Rosie Mae Callens" brings back sweet memories of days in a simpler world. This amazing song delivers a powerful message - if you love someone, tell them now - there may not be a tomorrow.
Remember 2001 - A Space Odessey? There was this talking computer, named "H.A.L" (think "I.B.M. - 1). Anyway, the promise of talking machines that could think and interact with humans effectively seemed possible at the time, surely by the year 2000. WRONG!!! "H.A.L." is a tongue-in-cheek poke at the current state of computer technology.
"If I Hear Just One More Love Song" is a sarcastic commentary on the value of love songs, inspired by an overdose of schmaltzy in-flight music during a business flight.
Some say that love is a many slendored thing. The Tucker Brothers say that love can also be a many splintered thing. "Like a Chainsaw" is another rocking ode to love gone wrong.
Joel painted his stand-up bass green. He says that he uses Krylon spray paint because it has a "brighter tone". "Paint Yore Fiddle" is both a tribute to Bill Monroe and a cheeky poke at musical snobbery.
Finally, "The Cow Said Moo" is a tribute to domesticity. It exalts the ordinary in married life.
All in all, this extraordinary collection of songs is a must have for anyone who loves the South, the idea of the South, or just great country/rockabilly music.
These guys can sing and play. Don't miss this gem of a CD.
And as always, this CD has been "Tuckerized" for your listening protection.
