Bio / Background
Trystette: The Deepest Part of My Soul
Berlin: Don’t “throw zse violin out zsa vinndow”, it could bring James Brown, the Pretenders and Joe Cocker to your concert.
Pre the collapse of The Berlin Wall, Trystette was advised by a renowned Russian art critic, to “throw zse violin out zsa vinndow” and instead pursue her bizarre surreal painting as a career. The petite New Zealand-born singer, Carrie Beehan, appropriately ignored this sage ageist advice and simply swapped violin for formal vocal training in Berlin, humming a favorite hymn, “Living In America” as she edited news for German television in one of it’s most conflicting eras. To alleviate the intensity of this field of work she dreamed of funkier stages abroad. Meanwhile, one of Americas legendary funk bass players. T.M. Stevens, left his long-term place in the Joe Cocker Band after a memorable stint in The Pretenders and launched his own brand of Heavy Metal Funk throughout Europe and Asia.
↓ more ↓By the late nineties, she was lauded in Berlin variety theater as an exceptional artist with high-class talent and applauded internationally by the press for her unique coolly dramatic vocal and lyrical approach to the break beat dance genre with the debut Berlin album Tryst/Tryst (BMG/Universal). Mr. Stevens was, as Tina Turner sings, “simply the best”, a bonafide Rockstar, and a musician’s musician. Tied to the same German record label, Stevens heard Beehan’s, delicate soulful songs in 2004, her quirkiness reminiscent to him of early Prince with a Chrissie Heines trait for great simple guitar songs. He opted to perform and produce several tracks on this current, aptly-titled album, The Deepest Part of My Soul, quoted as “oozing raw sensuality without being vulgar."* and “providing a perfect soundtrack for late night life.” Newsweek’s Tokyo editor, Christian Caryl, describes their music as, “subversively charming, nervy and accomplished, all at once.” With the drive of Stevens - famous for his hit riffs with music giants- including vocals and bass on James Brown’s “Living In America” Joe Cocker’s greatest hit “Unchain My Heart”, and The Pretenders most successful album, “Get Close” - the Trystette/Stevens combination, “exudes a confidence few artists seem to have”, Mag 1340, and with a “ragga vibe, scattergun soul, sweet & delicate, Trystette succeeds in updating a classic soul sound for modern audiences.” Woman’s Collective Sounds, May 2007.

HIstory:
Trystette, New York based singer Carrie Beehan, applauded by the press for her unique vocal and lyrical approach to the break beat dance genre and coolly dramatic voice with her '98 debut album Tryst/Tryst (BMG/Universal), the front woman of former early 90's satirical Berlin band Cadillac Crooning, presents in 2006 her new album Deepest Part of My Soul.
After over a decade in Berlin, Germany, Carrie departed from the renowned Berlin Chamaeleon Variete Theater in the late 1990s lauded as "an exceptional artist whose high-class talent as singer and performer made it a joy for us to engage her". Featured on MTV and international radio with her first electronic Cocteaux Twins flavored album "Tryst" in '98, she left her Berlin home and gravitated towards the USA.As a member of New York artist's creative epicenter FEVA and the NY Tributary she merged her cabaret and electronic past with the funk of NY's finest musicians writing original, sensual and rocking melodic songs with extraordinary collisions of pop, electronic, funk and soul or simply described as MODERN SOUL or NEO SOUL.
She performs together with the legendary bassist TM Stevens (Shocka Zooloo, James Brown, Pretenders, Joe Cocker, Billy Joel, Tina Turner), whose skill and proficiency as a bassist, producer, vocalist and sideman is legendary. His ferocious yet melodic style of bass - a special brand of rock, funk and manic soul - is as unique as his larger-than-life onstage persona. Whether accompanying one of the many world-class performers in his resume, or fronting his own progressive metal-funk rock band Shocka Zooloo, his is a musical force to be reckoned with. Trystette's recordings include contributions from T.M.Stevens as both producer and bassist, drums Howard Alper (Radical Thought Resistance; Cory Glover). Veteran guitarist Gerry Eastman - played with New York notables like The Count Basie Orchestra, Frank Foster and Stanley Turrentine. Piano/keyboard Mfergu and guest artists Phaeder (Lotus Beat, United One records, Berlin), guitarist Michael Barnes (Shocka Zooloo) and guitarist John Cabánt (Art Neville, Bo Diddley). Co-production/mixes by Robert L. Smith, a seasoned engineer from New York's Power Station & Hit Factory. Productions include David Bowie's "Black Tie White Noise", Rickie Lee Jones' "It's Like This",& Chaka Khan's "You & I"
TM Stevens always works with the best, so I expected the same of
Trystette's first album since 1998's Tryst and I was not let down.
Moving away from but not completely letting go of electro-roots, The
Deeper Part of My Soul is a beautiful exploration of funk, ambient, and
house music, providing a perfect soundtrack for late night life....
