An award-winning songwriter of new acoustic music, contemporary in theme and classic in structure. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer says of Ritchie's music: "These are great songs, written by a man with keen insight and a wonderful sense of humor"
Bio / Background
In the style of such venerable folk artists as Arlo Guthrie and Utah Phillips, TR Ritchie is one of those natural storytellers gifted with the ability to think on his feet, trust his instincts, and let what happens happen. Every show is different, and his audiences have grown to love the free-form musings of his performances as much as they do the award-winning music he has written over the course of a career that now spans two decades.
From his musical beginnings as a street singer in Seattle to his emergence as one of the country's finest songwriter/performers, Ritchie has gone his own way, becoming a mainstay in the ranks of first-rate artists in modern acoustic music. Drawing from a diverse assortment of musical influences - country, swing, ragtime, blues, traditional folk - he has created a repitoire of original music which explores the gamut of human emotion, by turns soulful, sly, whimsical, worldly, philosophical.
↓ more ↓With acoustic guitar, a keen eye for observation and a love of narrative, Ritchie epitomizes Mark Twain's famous quote: "Any damn fool can make things complicated; simplicity takes genius" He stands the ground he knows and delivers the goods, content to let others fret with the bells and whistles of fad and convention.
What you see is what you get: first-rate songs, written with a poet's love of language and a storyteller's sense of style, delivered with unapologetic enthusiasm by an artist at the top of his form.
