Let It Roll by Trevor Ras

And while the recording and songwriting are strongly rooted in the present, the vibe suggests you’re listening to John Mellencamp’s “Jack and Diane” for the first time or watching the sunset, singing along to Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl.”

“I grew up with all those cats. There were so many nights around the campfire or at BBQs singing our hearts out and jamming to those tunes…They’re my roots. Those songs and artists had to sink into my own writing. It was inevitable,” says Trevor with a smile.

If there’s anyone who stays true to their roots its Trevor Ras. Recorded and co-produced by long time friend Adam Gershon at Even Audio in West L.A. (www.evenaudio.com), “Let It Roll” is filled with thoughtfully crafted tunes that come straight from the heart. From the reminiscent look at growing up in the title track to driving down the back roads of America with best friends in “The Journey,” Ras is intent on giving meaning to life’s experiences through song.

The only track on the record he did not write is the lead off track, “Call Me Tonight” which is a crowd favorite written by Gershon from their days in the popular NW college band Big Time Rosie.

‘“Call Me Tonight” was a tune we never recorded in the studio and It’s one of those timeless songs that deserves to be given it’s full due,’ comments Ras. ‘It has always been one of my favorites.’

As for the title of the EP, it was inspired by Trevor’s recent decision to go full time into music yet again. Leaving a high profile job as an entertainment publicist behind, Ras realized he would much rather spend his time chasing around something he truly loved than follow around celebrities in the Hollywood Hills.

“I’ve been playing music all my life. It’s what I love to do and I figure life is too short not to be happy. So this EP represents the beginning of a much longer path. I couldn’t be more excited to be chasing this dream.”

The singer/songwriter/saxophonist has been busy of late, reconnecting old fans to the new project, gathering fresh ones in small clubs from L.A. to Seattle and writing and recording songs for his full length debut late this summer. For now he is performing mostly solo acoustic (using a loop station to incorporate the sax) and duo shows with his own material, but also can be found playing saxophone with various projects around the L.A. scene (including former Portland standouts the Scott Fisher Project & Justin Hopkins Band).
