tree by leaf's music is provocative, evocative, and pretty.
Bio / Background
Since 1999, Tree by Leaf has been touring the country and playing summer festivals, carving the little inroads that place them deeply in the heart and memory of their audience. They have shared dates with a wide variety of musicians including Vassar Clements, Brooks Williams, Tracy Grammar, the McGarrigle Sisters, Little Feat and Chris Smithers. The ragtag collection of energies and perspectives that first coalesced on their 2001 debut album Works of Mercy and continued on the pensive Postcards from Rome in 2003 now lives on in the new release, Of the Black & the Blue, released May 1, 2005. Recorded and produced by Ezra Rugg at Studio EZ in Freedom, this new cd will surprise and delight fans, old and new.
Tree by Leaf is the unique synergy and musicianship of Garrett Soucy (vocals, guitar), Siiri Soucy (vocals) and Cliff Young (piano, rhodes & vocals).
↓ more ↓On Of the Black & the Blue, Tree by Leaf are joined by guests Ezra Rugg (bass, drums, production) and Nick Cody (electric guitar). Every new release by Tree by Leaf is met with high expectations for their trademark richly textured harmonies, Garrett Soucy's powerful songwriting, and new and surprising explorations of sound and story. Of the Black & the Blue, their 3rd release on Long Ago Light Music, will not disappoint.
The songs on Of the Black & the Blue are fueled by Garrett Soucy's characteristic exploration of faith and doubt. Using a number of voices, Soucy traces the roots of truth that lay beneath the surface of ordinary life. Siiri Soucy makes her songwriting debut with There is a Last Time and comes fully into her own as a lead vocalist, haunting and flawless. These songs find their way unerringly under the skin. Regardless of the listeners background, they speak directly to who and what we really are.
