This is Earth Music for Space Poets, offering an intriguing and unique blend of hoppin' Didjeridu Grooves, chill Native American Flute, haunting Bass-lines, shamanic Beats and original Mystical Spoken Word Poetry reminiscent of Rumi and Hafiz.
Bio / Background
Praise for Lanterns of Midnight,
"Travis Wernet and collaborator Ben Leinbach’s album, LANTERNS OF MIDNIGHT, is the best fusion of cool music and shamanic spoken word that I have ever heard. Like the circular breathing technique Travis uses in playing the didjeridoo, music drives word and word drives music to keep rolling your surrendered emotional body down the grassy slope until you come to rest in a new state of radiance. I like to sprinkle cuts from this album into my own compilations. Check out my favorite, track 7. A work of passion, exquisitely well recorded.
All good! No kidding!"

Lanterns of Midnight is a weaving of Mystical Poetry married to the musical sounds and rhythms of the Earth and the Elements.
↓ more ↓There is a sweet fusion here between voice and music : a journey of the individual flowing into and being held up by the Landscape of the Soul,
" The mind goes, in this madness of Love,
for a torch to burn further in every direction,
and pulls me around, through days I don't decide upon..."
(from There's a Hole in My Earth).
Throughout this soundscape, Travis calls forth the Deep Wanting which we all experience in some way, for a Union with that which can guide us in our daily life, and bring Beauty and Mystery into the many steps we take along our paths towards and within what keeps us searching for and finding a sense of Awe and Wonder.
As Rumi , the 13th Century Mystic Persian Poet says,
"There is some kiss we want , with our whole lives...".
This unique project is a search for that kiss, and took form synergistically through a turning over and over of the poems and instrumentation while Travis was discovering he wanted to create a recording. It's inspiration speaks from such places as the Pacific Coast at night as well as the Marin Headlands or Point Reyes, where he spent time didjing, drumming, playing flute and chanting the poems, feeling the wind blow through, asking for something greater to enter and bless the music of this CD.
The CD holds forth these moments of Clarity and Grace and is truly a sort of Universal Portal through which to pass and explore the territory of what Frank MacEowen, Celtic Shaman, Poet and Musician refers to as 'Oran Mor', the Great Song.
Travis has been playing Didjeridu for the last eight years in Trance-Fusion-Chant-Band, Axis Mundi who perform regularly in the Bay Area. Having moved to the Bay in 1993 from Colorado. He is currently (Fall 2006), setting out to perform Live in support of Lanterns.
