Traditional and contemporary a cappella choral music from plaintive, yet clear sounds to interweaving sounds of jazz.
Bio / Background
The Towne Singers capture the spirit of music in all it varieties on this CD, from the plaintive, yet clear sounds of "Bright Morning Star" to the interweaving sounds of jazz in "I'm Beginning To See The Light." The Towne Singers touch and interpret the choral polyphony of "The Eyes of All Wait Upon Thee," the bold sounds of the spiritual "Jesus is All the World To Me" and the haunting loss that is in "Highland Mary." "The Argument" lets the Towne Singers express a frustration of that intimate institution, marriage, with humor, allowing us to the see the serious with eyes opened by hyperbolae. They also take us through tender and moving emotions through their interpretations of "And So It Goes", and "My Heart Will Go On" as well as others. "Voice and Spirit" shows the diversity and range of the Towne Singers and the power of music to touch our lives in every way.
The 100+ member Towne Singers was founded by Phyllis Winnaman in 1987 in La Canada, California.
