MALINDA ELLISON, EXEC. PRODUCER of NATIONALLY SYNDICATED "TOP FORTY" RADIO BROADCAST SAYS:
____________________________________________________________
"Their music actually has meaning and their energy is so fresh that not even El Nino can hold them back. What kind of music do they play? No one knows for sure, but it's good...darn good!"
EXCERPT FROM: FOLKLORE REVIEW/indie~music.com
____________________________________________________________ "Don't let the title fool you, there is very little, if
anything, folky about the recording. Thr3 is a good band. They are good musicians, and they play well together.
Their debut album, Folklore, is a solid effort. It showcases all aspects of their multifaceted sound. Most of the album is a combination of several styles: acoustic music, alternative rock, etc. Don't let the title fool
you, there is very little, if anything, folky about the recording. If the acoustic instruments were electric, there would be no resemblance at all. But, they don't need to be folky to be good. Folklore starts with "January," which is one of the best songs on the recording. It sounds quite a bitlike early-to mid-90s Pretenders. With their female lead singer (April Free) singing melodic acoustic rock, it is very reminiscent of songs like "Human" from Viva El Amor! It has a really good melody, and would probably be the single from the album. From there, the style changes a lot. Several parts of the album are more in the vein of Alice in Chains' MTV Unplugged and the subsequent rip-off bands (e.g. Days of the New, Creed, etc). Thr3 is more than a rip-off band though. They aren't just playing slightly re-written versions of "Rooster" and "Over Now." They combine the acoustic hard rock of that Alice in Chains album with the Pretenders. "To the Moon" is a good example of this. It starts off with a fast strummed chord progression on several layered acoustic guitars and alternates between that and dual vocals for the verse. The chorus is very much like the version of hard rock created by Alice in Chains.
The singing on the album is shared between April & Josh. April does a good portion of the singing and is good at it. Josh is good too but does it less. They both have voices that fit the music. April has a voice with the strength of singers like Jewel. Her voice isn't quite as pretty or quite as high, but it is better suited to the music the way it is and more than getsthe job done. Long has a mid-ranged voice like many rock stars, but that is all that's needed. He doesn't need to be uber-gravely like Tom Waits or have any other affectation for that matter. His unimposing voice lets the lyrics come through.
Thr3 is a good band. That's really all there is to it.
They are good at what they do. . ."

Together since '96, this band has a vision and lots of skill in executing it. Vocalist April [Free] has a powerful delivery and the band is captured with a remarkably warm production which compliments the heartfelt songs. . .
