"Neo-Classic Indie Garage Rock."
Bio / Background
Doug Jenkins, Brad Sawicki and Riley Ryan joined together as the power rock trio, The Rikters, in May 2004 in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. Drawing from such influences as Elvis Costello, Radiohead, The Smoking Popes, and At The Drive-In, The Rikters aimed to create a totally unique sound. In March 2005, The Rikters released their debut E.P., Mistaken for Scientists, which has since been played on Chicago-land radio stations Q101, WXRT, WLUW and WONC. Steve Sobel of Openingbands.com reviewed the E.P. as saying, "The Rikters’ sound would fit rather nicely nestled between current indie rock artists and the neo-classic garage rock stylings of popular artists like The Strokes." Since the release of the E.P., they have played to large crowds at such venues as the Double Door, Schubas, Subterranean and Elbo Room in Chicago and at the 2006 Chicago Auto Show.
↓ more ↓The Rikters have shared the stage with The Smoking Popes (Victory), Harvey Danger (Kill Rock Star), Wax On Radio (Downtown), Cities (Yep Roc), So Many Dynamos (Skrocki), This Is Me Smiling (Columbia), Treaty of Paris and many more. In October, 2006 The Rikters headed into the Gallery of Carpet Studios to work with producer Brian Zeiske (The Academy Is, The Hush Sound) to record their second EP. Looking to capture a classic sound, the seven song EP was recorded and mixed in analog. To enhance this organic sound, The Rikters turned to Steve Rooke (The Cure, Wilco, Franz Ferdinand) of Abbey Roads Studios in London to master the seven songs. The 'Don't You Get It' EP is scheduled to be released in February of 2007. The Rikters plan on touring throughout 2007 in support of the new release.
