Bio / Background
Bruce Tetley is the Michael Moore of the music industry. After nearly thirty years of dealing with slimey agents,
dishonest club owners and promoters, and record company weasels, he has decided to record, produce, and sell
his product himself.
Born and raised in a small town in upstate New York, Bruce was influenced by many styles of music. His Dad and he sat on their porch and listened to old time country music in the fifties.(Roy Acuff, Flatt and Scruggs, Doc Watson, etc.)
Later the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly were a huge influence. Then came the Beatles and everything changed.
Bruce Tetley started out playing drums but was rapidly dis-couraged by his family.(too much noise) It was just as well.(too much gear to haul)
As a teen he was a singer in several "garage bands" but didn't take up the guitar seriously until the age of 19.
At that time Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, and CSNY were major influences. Upon hearing Eric Clapton's "Layla" album and the Allman Bros.
↓ more ↓"Live at the Fillmore" it was time to buy a Gibson Les Paul and later a Fender Strat.
Recently, Bruce has been getting back into acoustic music and "Blue Eyed Sole" is the result.
For years the blues and roots rock were the music he concentrated on and recorded two albums in that vein. One was "House of Cards" with a band called "Blueprints" with George Deveny, currently with the "Tom Healey Band", and Dave Liddy from "Stringbee". That album received rave reviews and several award nominations. Both Dave and George contributed to "Blue Eyed Sole". The second album was a solo effort called "Sunrise".
Bruce has lived in northeast Florida for the last few years but due to the recent hurricane activity has decided to move to Maui. The first cut on the CD is "Dodgin' a Hurricane" and pretty much sums up the stress and frustration most Floridians have been feeling. It's a tongue in cheek ditty design to bring a smile and take some of the pressure off. The last cut, "Maui Calls",
looks to his future plans and is a tribute to what Hawaiians refer to as the "aloha spirit". Please give a listen to some or all of the samples here and buy many copies and ask your friends to do the same. Mahalo. ALOHA!
UPDATE! "Dodgin' a Hurricane" has won first prize in the "Best New Florida Song" contest sponsored by the Will McLean Foundation and Folk Festival on March 12, 2005.
Congratulations Bruce!!
UPDATE! Unfortuately, things didn't work out on Maui and Bruce is temporarily in San Francisco visiting his sister Kate. He will return to upstate N.Y. in Sept. '05. He looks forward to entertaining his fans and friends at home.
