The bands Blue Rodeo/Beatles-meets-Eric Clapton feel, impressed local audiences and grabbed the attention of local television stations and newspapers. The popularity resulted in two independent CD releases from 1996 to 1999.
In 2000, Taylor started working with local Oshawa producer and guitarist, Jeff Ross. Taylor and Ross created their own pop/rock sound and TaylorRoss's CD, Heartfelt Graffiti was born. ↓ more ↓1 FM), and Kingston Ontario Canada (91.9 FM the Cave), had put the five song promo version of Heartfelt Graffiti into rotation.
In June 2004, Taylor's individual talent was discovered by Paul Shubot (post audio supervisor/re-recording mixer) and Alfie Di Pucchio (audio engineer/sound editor) from Toybox Studios in Toronto. That very night, Taylor recorded three original songs live off the studio floor under the engineering of Shubot and Di Pucchio. This recording launched the beginning of Joe Taylor's career as a solo artist.
Taylor Ross disbanded in August of 2004. In that same month, Taylor recorded a live showcase for a local cable network called Cogeco Channel 3, in Kingston, Ontario. His performance was broadcast regionally throughout eastern Ontario.
September 2004 marked Taylor's debut U.S. performance at CBGBs 313 Gallery in New York City. After relocating to Manhattan the following month, he was booked at the Knitting Factory.
In 2005 Taylor continued to play at several showcases and open mics throughout the Tri-State area. He became a member of the New York Singer/Songwriter Sessions in March and played a few shows at the Bitter End.
In June, Joe also perfomed in Las Vegas at a few clubs also including the Neopolis Theater, which was the venue used for the New York International Music Festival.
