A thoroughly enjoyable trip through a traditional garden of songs for voice and harp, often with a Celtic theme and a traditional folk agelessness.
Bio / Background
Tanya Brody can't remember a time she wasn't singing. From childhood on she was acting and singing on stage, in school and professionally around Minneapolis, MN where she grew up. At 13 she joined the Bel Canto Voices, a professional girls choir that toured around the country and internationally. At 14 she joined the entertainment staff at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and performed with a guitar on the street. Soon after she was given a harp for the holidays, which became her primary instrument. She performed around Minneapolis, and then branched out by going to the Carolina Renaissance Festival in 1994. That launched her Renaissance Festival Circuit career. Tanya has branched out from her Renaissance roots into other venues including Scottish Games, Folk Festivals libraries and Colleges with her new Celtic band, The Muses. ↓ more ↓This is Tanya's first album which she produced at the age of 23 after many years of playing. Though her style and voice have changed over the years, this still very much reflects Tanya's roots in music, which come from the traditional songs her father sang with her as a child. She Moved Thro' The Faire was recorded in 1992 with her uncle, Walter Brody at Sound !deas studio in Chicago, IL. All the songs that Tanya grew up singing and that she collected at her many years performing at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival make this album a trip down memory lane. The title track, She Moved Thro' the Faire Tanya learned while studying abroad in Ireland during college. Skye Boat Song was a lullaby that her father used to sing her to sleep as a child and The Rose Rounds are many of the rounds that her parents used to teach she and her sister to hold their own parts on long car trips. Made first as a cassette tape and later changed over to CD-R, this album is a necessary part of any Tanya Brody collector's series. Tanya has been compared to Loreena McKennitt in vocal style, among others. Many people claim that she has "The voice of an angel". Music is Tanya's first love and it comes across in her passionate playing.
