A little rockabilly, a little blues, some folk, and some Beatles-style pop songs.
Bio / Background
My name’s Steve Hill, and I’d like to tell you that I won the
Grammy last year for “Best New Artist.” However, that would be a
blatant lie. So, since you’re just getting to know me, I think
it’s best to stick with the truth. Mostly.
I’m a lifelong resident of Indiana, and also a lifelong fan of
the Fab Four. I remember seeing The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show
when I was but a wee lad (it probably was a rerun, because I would
have only been three years old in 1964), and thinking “I’d like
to BE them.” Notice, I didn’t say I wanted to be LIKE them --
I actually wanted to BE them. As you can imagine, this presented all
kinds of challenges and problems. In the end, I decided it was best
for all five of us if I established my own musical identity.
I’ve written songs for as long as I can remember. (In fact, I
distinctly remember writing a “theme song” for the rare occasions
when my two sisters would talk me into playing “House” with them.
↓ more ↓(I called it “Mom and Dad,” if you must know, and I could probably
play it for you right now, if you held a gun to my head). In the
early ‘90s, I joined a club called the Songwriters
Association of Mid-North Indiana. The fact that there were other
people, who lived close to me, that were just as passionate about
music as I was came as quite a revelation to me. Music aside, I also
met some of the greatest friends I’ll ever have as a result of
being in this group.
Although it took many years, and many false starts, the album (CD,
to all you youngsters out there) I always wanted to make was released
in December 2006. With the help of many talented people, I completed
a disc that features six of my original compositions. Most of the
songs are with a full band arrangement, but there are also some that
are presented in an intimate, acoustic setting. Stylistically,
it’s all over the place, revealing the influences of the
previously mentioned Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and a
host of others. Would you believe there’s even a rap song on the
disc? I guess I wouldn’t either.
If you’ve read this far, thanks for sticking with me. Why not
give my CD a listen, or stop by one of my shows? I’ll be updating
this listing periodically, so why not check back every now and then?
For example, in a future edition maybe I’ll tell the world how I
once had aspirations to be a super hero --and I truly wish I was
only kidding!
