Fun Lovin' Rock and Roll
Bio / Background
Written by:
Jared A. Favole
Status Green has its roots in Asbury Park, N.J. This fun loving rock-n-roll quartet got its start in the summer of 2005 and shortly thereafter released their first CD, Greatest Hits Vol. I, to much acclaim. Their indelible lyrics and rockin' sound, combined with frontman Lou Montesano's sultry rasp, earned Status Green "Best Pop Band" and "Best Live Performance" at the 2006 Asbury Park Music Awards. Greatest Hits Vol. I shows that Status Green can produce an emotionally honest, upbeat record reminiscent of the old days of Rock-n-Roll—think modern-day Beach Boys—that keeps fans coming back for more. The record, mixed with Status Green's dynamic and explosive concerts, propelled the band to the top of 95.5 WPLJ's listeners poll and got them a chance to open up for the legendary Bon Jovi. Their wild ride started when Montesano returned from a cross-country excursion that took him all the way to California and Hawaii.
↓ more ↓He had written lyrics and held auditions in the basement of a local preschool in search of talented musicians ready to fuse vintage rock from bands such as The Beatles, The Beach Boys and Elvis Costello into a bonanza of fun lovin' rock-n-roll. Montesano and high school friends Mike Montalto (drums, back-up vocals), Russell Tolas (bass, back-up vocals) and Chris Marino (guitar, back-up vocals) proved to be the perfect blend of talent and personality. Marino is a self-taught musician known for funky, Zeppelin-esque guitar solos and a black fedora that seems glued to his head and drives female fans wild. Tolas brings the progressive side of Status Green's music and keeps the band entertained on and off stage, which is no surprise considering that he counts Rodney Dangerfield among his idols. Montalto is a classically trained percussionist and jazz drummer who drives the lightening-fast, crisp fills and beats that set Status Green apart. Montesano is the energetic frontman and writes Status Green's catchy, yet indelible lyrics. He is capable of crooning and producing throat-ripping vocals while rockin' on the piano or plugging the guitar strings. Status Green is blessed by rabid fans who pack concert halls, pester radio stations to play songs such as "Darling Oh" and yearn for their next CD. All told, Status Green is a musically powerful quartet ready to leave their mark on music.
