Rockin' pop with more snap than a loaded slingshot
Bio / Background
SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, March 7, 2000:
"The irony in the title is that most every one of its 11 cannily crafted songs, with a mix of sincerity and a taste of something devilish, has something that will make you want to smile.
This is smooth pop, with plenty of quirk that brings to mind the layers of psychedelic-era Beatles, the drive and catchiness of early Steely Dan, and the gloss of a San Jose short-lived prodigy, Toy Matinee.
Stanley's credentials include writing and producing some of Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell's early tunes and the Latin fusion rock band Mystique.
He produces and records in a small Sunnyvale home studio.
But his heart is clearly in this clean pop that is tasty enough to slide right onto any number of radio formats, from KEZR and KLLC to KITS in its earlier incarnation.
↓ more ↓This is one of those discs you hear and wonder, is this really going on in my back yard and why isn't this guy a huge star? If you are buying the new Steely Dan or Paul McCartney albums--trust me on this--throw this one in your cart also.
It's got the kind of energy these folks had early in their careers and it's as good, if not better, than either of their latest works.
