Stagger Lee completes his trilogy of albums in 2007 with a Zydeco-influenced record that reminds the world what a great city New Orleans is.
Bio / Background
It's not uncommon for an artist to release one album per year. And double-albums are not exactly a rarity either. But when an artist has enough material to span three full-lengths albums simultaneously, THAT is impressive.
Stagger Lee went the Hank Williams, Jr, Merle Haggard route with Nashville Starfucker and Brimstone Cowboy. He's no stranger to that kind of Country music. But when Lee began recording A Confederacy Of Dunces, he decided to reach back to his Louisiana routes and inject some Zydeco and Cajun Blues that would make Dr. John and Buckwheat Zydeco proud. While Confederacy still maintains the sarcastic tongue-in-cheek nature of his previous works, a different side, with different influences is exposed.
"I got tired of making the same record," Lee said. "I felt like revisiting some of the things that first got me exciting about making music at all. Accordians, bluesy guitars, different melodies and drumbeats. I'm not sure if this is a Country record at all.
↓ more ↓I'm not sure if it's a Zydeco one, or a Blues one. Maybe it's a little bit of all of those things. That's definitely what I was aiming for."
Highlights included Lee Cajun version of the Georgia Home Boy classic "Ginger Lee," as well as "I Got It Bad For You," a song about finally realizing your adoration for someone. "Irma Thomas And Buckwheat Zydeco" is a song about the forgotten greats in the Louisiana music scene that don't get the credit they deserve. You can probably guess who "Me And Jerry Lee" is about, and "Laying Low" closes out an album that tries to bring back the musical spirit in a city and region that desperately STILL needs help.
Stagger Lee will resume writing and recording in 2008.

This reminds me of some of the classic blues I grew up with.
