Bio / Background
BACKGROUND
Starting on the periphery of the dream pop scene in early 90's Los Angeles, The Sugarplastic had their first breakthrough during a signing binge at DGC (Geffen) Records. Bang, The Earth is Round was released to critical praise in 1996 and despite constant fluctuations in the music business, The Sugarplastic maintain a solid and rabid fan base to this day, and continue to play out and record.
In 2001, William Cooper Glenn passed away. A founding member of Rain Parade as well as a key player in Mazzy Star and Opal, his passing deeply affected the music community in Los Angeles. This album Will is inspired by his inventive arranging and producing techniques, as well as his outlook on the world.
The Sugarplastic have been waiting for you. They never went away, they were just hiding in a corner of your psyche, waiting to make a grand
re-entrance. "Will" is their first full length since "Resin" in 2000.
↓ more ↓SOUNDS LIKE
From the beginning, with their debut album "Radio Jejune", The Sugarplastic have been compared favorably (and endlessly) to XTC. The new songs veer from hyper-melodic to random soundscapes. Always lyrically clever, the songs on Will don't disappoint. We're pretty sure the XTC thing will be dead and buried once these songs are heard. (Not that being compared to XTC is a bad thing!!)
Current influences range from Killing Joke to Debussy, Mid-90's noise pop band Rollerskate Skinny to Swedish quirk-popsters bob hund.
The members of The Sugarplastic are: Ben Eshbach- guitar/vocals, Kiara Geller - bass, Sean Jacobsen - guitar, David Cunningham - drums
