Little songs...Some crude. Some touching. Stories as seen through the keyholes and windows of New York City by a young red haired singer/pianist... inspired by Mozart, The Beatles, Billie Holiday and Bob Dylan...
Bio / Background

The CD 11:11 is full of pop, jazz, and blues influences.
Recorded by Richie Castellano, with Chris Kuffner on bass.
Regina performs in many small NYC venues. Mostly in the East Village, in the Anti Folk world. She is a regular in places like The Livingroom (Allen St.) and Sidewalk Cafe(6th St. and Ave. A)
She says "Hi".
Life inside the music box ain't easy
the malots hit the gears are always turning
and everyone inside the mechanism
is yearning
to get out
and sing another melody completely
so different from the one they're always singing
i close my eyes and think that i have found me
but then i feel mortality sorround
i want to sing another melody
so different from the one i always sing
...but when i do the dishes.....
↓ more ↓
i run the water very very very hot
and then i fill the sink to the top with bubbles of soap
and then i set all the bottle caps i own afloat
and it's the greatest voyage in the history of plastic
and then i slip my hands in and start to make waves
and then i dip my tongue in a take a taste
it tastes like soap but it doesn't realy taste like soap
and then i lower in my whole mouth and take a gulp
...and start to feel mortality sorround me
i close my eyes and think that i have found me
but life inside the music box ain't easy
the malots hit the gears are always turning
and every one inside the mechanism
is yearning to get out
is yearning to get out
is yearning to get out...

Regina has brilliant lyrics that say all the things in my head that never quite come out on their own. I love her passionately. The absolute most amazing artist of the decade, hands down.
different, in a good wayrOkstar wrote on October 29, 2008
her music is different from what you hear on the radio, that's what makes it so good! 11:11 is different sound-wise from her current album "Begin To Hope" but it still has that authentic Regina quality. Regina has the power to move you to tears, laughter, happiness and the rest in between! This is a great listen, no doubt.
a great artistmad77 wrote on August 01, 2008
Regina is a great singer (with very good lyrics) and player; 11:11 is good, even if it's not for everyone: the sounds are still a bit "rare" in my opinion, but once you get used to it, you'll love it. I can only suggest everyone to also buy other (more "mature") albums by Regina Spektor, like Soviet Kitsch and the impressive Begin To Hope (one of the best album of the last decade).
