Editorial review
Sativa Novak's Blondie-esque vocals lend a uniqueness to Sour's somewhat mundane industrial dance-rock on Exactly What You Think It Is. She's aggressive and sexy without ever seeming gothic or disturbed. It's a sound that would be really well-suited to instrumentation with a bit more new wave in it. But Sour has developed more of a lighter-side-of-Nine Inch Nails angle. It works, especially on the heavy "Stop" and the wailing "Me," but Sour could sound amazing by becoming more extreme -- if they're going to avoid poppy hooks, it would be nice to see them pull out all the stops when it comes to a destructive sound. That's not to say that Exactly What You Think It Is is weak, but if the music was as heavy as, say, the Queens of the Stone Age, the band would be unstoppable. For now, they'll just have to be a group who shows great potential. ~ Charles Spano, All Music Guide
Bio / Background
Digital punks? Industrial trancesters? Breakbeat Jungleists? Cartoonish ravers? Tectonic metal-heads? Angstcore artistes?
Serving a dash of trash and a twisted mix of aggressive guitars, Gothic overtones, and techno poly-rhythms, Los Angeles' SouR explodes with a dense, throbbing meld of alternative hard rock and electronica.
Featuring Sativa Novak on vocals, guitarist DD Ehrlich, bassist Clint Yeager, and drummer Tom Curry, SouR's dark alchemy emerges from a sonic landscape akin to the Lords of Acid, Garbage, Basement Jaxx, Ministry, and Stabbing Westward.
SouR can be seen and heard via numerous college radio play-lists, at the top of MP3's metal charts (Sundries), A Punk Tribute to NOFX(Cleopatra 2002- "What's The Matter With Kids Today"), and on A Punk Tribute To Metallica (Cleopatra 2001- Am I Evil).
Nihilistic, erotic, brooding, acerbic, celebratory, and hypnotic, SouR's
self-titled debut is ten tracks of charging riffage that breathes new life into a cloying genre.
