Working from the premise that much of today's soul/r&b has become narcissistic, oversung, and lacking in the joy and spontaneity that once delivered hit after hit to the pop charts, SOUL PROJECT went into the studio. The remedy was a tall order, but you can judge as the spirit of Stax, Motown, and Philly soul infect and ignite the 14 tracks of "Soul Project: Reconnection".
Eight guest vocalists take their turn in providing each song a musical identity of its own. From Mandyl Evans' "Memphis souled" vocals on "Snake In The Bag" and "Corporate Man", to Sonja Grier's "Funk-Brothered" take on "Been In The Storm Too Long" and Maria Howell's "Philadelphia-soul" "Somethin' You Got", there is clearly much going on with this CD. SOUL PROJECT "reconnects" the genre with its pop roots.
