60's drenched, world-wise folk-pop.
Bio / Background
PRESS on Headlights and Other Constellations
"Hunter possesses a pure, unornamented voice right out of the '60s folk revival, but often sounds like a '90s indie rocker - more in the lineage of Exene Cervenka than Joan Baez. In her writing she tends toward oblique melodies that could have come from Led Zeppelin III...add her unique vocal phrasing and jazz-tinged arrangements reminiscent of Tim Buckley or Fred Neil, and Hunter's understated music is the stuff of folk-pop dreams." Derk Richardson, East Bay Express
"Her thoughtful lyrics deliver a bite, as in 'Shiny Escalator,' which describes consumerism as that 'hunger that's hard to kill.'" Dirty Linen
"...In a slightly more indie-rock way, she's got Lucinda Williams' plainspoken ability to know you off your feet....the opening track is not just a gem, but it's title could stand as Hunter's motto: 'Just Good Music.'" Dennis Harvey
"...Hunter's disconsolate explorations are backed by some of the Bay Area's best jazz players.
↓ more ↓Their expert chops and inventive arrangements perfectly complement Hunter's understated anguish with odd meters and syncopations--keeping the focus on Hunter's elegant lyrics and unadorned vocals." E-Online
* Mini Bio *
This Northern California-raised singer-songwriter's dedication to the craft is chronicled in her steadily growing discography that began in 1991 with "Favorite Short Stories." In addition to performing throughout the U.S. and regularly in her Bay Area stomping grounds, she has toured Europe widely with the German label release of her titles. Hunter relocated to New York City in '98, and then returned to San Francisco for the new millennium with a batch of songs (and a few recordings, too) that would soon be featured on her 2002 release "Sun in Mind."
