Bio / Background
GLAMOUR PROFESSION is the Skip Heller book/CD combo you've been waiting for (if you have no life). Lavish critical praise, use of his music on everyone's TV show from Tony Hawk to Bernie Mac might mellow a few guys out (or send them looking for more large dollars and less art), but Skip Heller has spent more time on the road, hitting the Flat 48 with a vengance and a cool sense of humor, playing venues where most jazz artists wouldn't even bother to stop for gas. But Skip Heller is set apart from other jazz artists for the same reason Black Flag was from other punk bands -- he tours EVERYWHERE.
"You got a zip code and room for a three piece band, I'm there."
The book discusses music, politics, travel, and Great Americans. It's at turns hilarious, thought-provoking, and a crash course on music.
WARNING: IF YOU THINK ANYONE IN OUR CURRENT ADMINISTRATION IS A GREAT AMERICAN, YOU SHOULD LIKELY BUY SOMETHING ELSE.
The disc is a whole other treat.
↓ more ↓SH went through his archives and pulled out some unusual nuggets, different live versions of recorded favorites that differ wildly from the issued versions, pointing up to how jazz compositions continue to evolve.
One Heller of a package.
