A combination of Metallica, HIM, Kiss, Pantera, and Megadeth all rolled into one big pile of metal.

Editorial review

Scapegoat may not appreciate this comparison, but Dawn of a New Death makes a decent case for them as the contemporary metal scene's equivalent of the Boston hair metal outfit Extreme. Yes, the "More Than Words" guys, but hear it out: before they became known mostly for an insipid power ballad, Extreme's cred was based on the way they mixed the then-current standards of metal with straight pop, glam rock, and even an unexpected kick of dance-rock. Similarly, Dawn of a New Death has plenty of catchy choruses and hooky guitar riffs, and a couple near-funky rhythm section parts. Unapologetic pop songs like "Possession" and nu metal grooves like "Jaded" sit comfortably nearby more standard metal like "Shut the Fuck Up." And, it must be said, the acoustic "Where Were You" is in fact a "More Than Words"-style power ballad. Break out the stonewashed denim and the bandanas, folks, because late-'80s metal is back. ~ Stewart Mason, All Music Guide

Bio / Background

In 1996 in the small town of Alamosa, Colorado, SKAPEGOAT was born. Michelangelo Lobato and Dustin Hollmer shared the same style in music and the same vision of playing in front of thousands of people. A local talent show wasn't going to bring that kind of crowd, however, these two ambitious guitar players began to assemble a group of musicians. With only 3 days to prepare, this band comprised of two singers, two drummers, one bass player, and two guitarists started working on a set list. SKAPEGOAT hammered out thirteen cover songs and one original track to a crowd of 250 college students and a standing ovation.

Over the next few months Michelangelo began selecting musicians who might share the same "vision" as he did. With a strong lineup and a makeshift P.A. system, SKAPEGOAT started playing the local music scene on a regular basis. Armed with a strong lineup and a powerful new sound SKAPEGOAT dominated the Southern Colorado scene for almost two years.
