ALBUM NOTES FROM THE WRITERS

The CD Eklec-ticity One is a collection of tunes that Georgie and I have written over the last several years for differing venues. Some were written with consideration to give to other artists; some were written for ourselves, a few were written to emulate the sound and production styles of other artists; hence the differing styles from song to song, and the title EKLEC-TICITY!

No Love for Linda was written back in the late 70's, and as I've done with a few of my tunes that were adaptable to it, produced a country, actually a Cajun version of it. Originally it wasn't far off from that; it was in a Beatles Rockabilly style.

"Was It Good For You" is especially interesting, in that the vocal sung by Scotti Haskell, daughter of the famous string arranger Jimmy Haskell, was actually recorded on a Portastudio in the mid 80s when we worked together in a casual band in Los Angeles. The Saxophone (played by James Bentley) and the horn lines also came from that mid 80s session. I tried to give it an Ami Stewart "Knock On Wood" type treatment to it.

"Back In the Water" which is under a publishing contract with Transition, was a minor labor of love. It was written and recorded to emulate the Beach Boys sound.

"Perfect Country Song" Lyrics by Georgie was inspired by David Allen Coes You Don't have to call me Darlin, where he talks about the various ingredients the Perfect Country Song should have.

"Give Me Another Kiss" is sort of the same situation as "Back In The Water" except in this case we are emulating the sound of early Diana Ross and the Supremes. See what you think.

"El Guapo" is more or less inspired by the movie Three Amigos which was one of my favorite movies even before I became friends with one of the actors in it (Candy Castillo-played one of El Guapos men). To this day I have never checked if the limited Spanish in the song actually mean anything of sensible value, and I intend to keep it that way. If anyone wants to let me know how badly I did with it, I'd love to hear from you.

"Damn" was purely an instrumental by me until Georgie got a hold of it and wrote lyrics for it. Mike Light, our bass player in L A recorded the vocal. We asked him to do his best James Brown.

"Bringing Me Back To You" is a Train Beat Country Song, lyrics again by Georgie.

"I'm Crazy Now" was written by Georgie. We actually did four different versions of this tune. The first was in a power pop Beatles style, next in Reggae, both these were sung by me. Next was a Spanish style version sung by Georgie, and the version presented here on EKEC-TICITY ONE in an old style country sound, that could have been sung by Patsy Cline or Roy Orbison.

"When I Close My Eyes" Georgie and I are both particularly proud of. Anyone with a wedding coming up or knows anyone with a wedding coming up, this would make the perfect Father Daughter Dance tune. Please listen.

"I Got A Feel For You" was recorded in the late 80s at Headway Studios in Garden Grove. A song I co-wrote with Jon Elefante called BS I LOVE YOU was being released in Europe on a Rockabilly compilation disc and this was one of the other tunes I recorded in that session. My friend Mark Clark programmed the drums, Baba Elefante produced the session Mike Bennedict is on Sax.

I'm On The Verge Of Tears is a good old Country saloon song. Georgie wrote it inspired by one of her favorite country tunes, I Got A Feelin' Called The Blues. You may get a beer buzz just listening to it.

Not Another Love Song was written in the mid to late 70s as an answer to Paul McCartney's Silly Love Songs. As such it was actually presented to Ringo for possible recording by our publisher in Florida, Mitchell Stone.

Oh John, also presented to Ringo by Mitch was originally written by Helois (Eli) Fillol, Georgie's brother in law. Georgie then came up with the idea of writing the lyrics filled with Beatle song titles and lines. Obviously Ringo liked the idea also. On his last album was a song tribute to George with Beatle and Harrison titles using the same idea as our Oh John....Oh Well.

Well this is my take on the tunes on EKLEC-TICITY ONE. EKLEC-TICITY TWO will be available in the fall.
