Bio / Background

Sheffer Stephens creates a playful lyrical landscape of story-telling, crafted and soulful, sincere and honest. Notable influences in the formative years of the group include Wilco, J. Cash, Martin Sexton, The Jayhawks, Van Morrison, Robert Johnson, Tom Waits in his early years. They at times shine through in bold colors, and at other times as barely distinguishable fingerprints.

The brainchild of singer/songwriter Paul Phillips, the music of Sheffer Stephens is augmented by a rotating line-up of talented musicians and performers, who are also dear friends. The songs and style remain the same; however the sound is always malleable and fresh with each new participant's own perspective.

The tunes are simple and memorable, the kind of music you turn up as you roll the windows down and drive into the sunset, it's the kind of music that is unique yet familiar.
