Soulful, funky R&B with powerhouse vocals
Bio / Background
Born in Sacramento, CA , then living in various points around the globe, Shayna Steele's family finally settled down when her father was stationed at an Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Shayna started singing at the age of 2. Rumor has it that people would weep because they could not believe that a girl this young could sing so beautifully. Initially, her inspirations were groups like The Temptations, The Four Tops and The Jackson 5; Shayna's father also made sure she checked out diverse artists like Isaac Hayes, Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin, allowing her to emulate their vocal styles and eventually develop her own.
As an artist and songwriter, Shayna has worked with some heavyweight collaborators over the past six years, including Moby, Marc Shaiman ("South Park: the Movie", "When Harry Met Sally", "Hairspray - the Musical") and David Liang (Carl Thomas).
↓ more ↓She fondly describes her writing partner/producer David Cook as her "musical soul mate" and also "the funkiest white boy I know."
Shayna has always kept her roots firmly planted in her love for R&B and Soul. "I love this music because it really is that simple and real for me. It comes from every part of my being, my soul, it's the kind of music I can't fake. I don't have to act like someone or something...it's just who I am."
