Bio / Background
Jonathan Segel plays/has played with Camper Van Beethoven, Eugene Chadbourne and various other semi-musical projects, including Sideways, Virginia Dare, Granfaloon Bus, Dieselhed and his own bands Hieronymus Firebrain and Jack and Jill. He has also played with Clyde Wrenn (as Clyde Wrenn and the Container), with Mike Marrt's Beaumont, occaisonal shows with Mark Goodman's group, Magnet, and has spent a great deal of time touring the globe with Mark Linkous' group, Sparklehorse.
Segel is also an accomplished composer. He has composed music for film and dance and has toured throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Japan performing solo or with a number of bands, most notably Camper Van Beethoven, Sparklehorse and Cracker, as well as with avant-garde musicians Eugene Chadbourne, Fred Frith and Joelle Leandre. Jonathan plays several instruments, including the guitar, bass guitar, violin, viola, mandolin, keyboards and computer.

His film score credits include several feature-length independent films such as Noah Stern's "The Invisibles", which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 1999 and Mia Trachinger's "Bunny", which premiered at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival in 2000, and a number of short films. He has also worked as a sound designer for film with Academy Award winning sound designer Dane A. Davis at Danetracks in Los Angeles.
Segel has been a principal composer for Nesting Dolls, the Los Angeles-based dance company (formerly of San Francisco), for well over a decade.
He also runs his own record label, Magnetic (www.magneticmotorworks.com), on which he releases many of his own CDs, as well as those of his close personal friends.
