Ass kickin' Blues Rock with in your face guitar in the vein of Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter and SRV.
Editorial review
After fronting an extremely popular Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute band for several years in the early '90s, this Florida native decided it was time to do his own thing. Although Strong Temptation does have glimmers of originality, however, it is still heavy on the SRV influence. "Crazy for Loving You" is a nice, slow blues similar to Gary Moore's "Still Got the Blues," featuring nice piano playing from guest artist Ben Crider. "Mojo Down the Road" is a hard-charging, ZZ Top-style tune. "Dixie 45" is a cool instrumental centered around a fresh, creative bassline; on this one Chambers gives a nod to his first influence, Hendrix. "You Was Wrong" blends the feel of a "Texas Flood" with "Stormy Monday" and throws in some intriguing, surprising variations on the standard blues chord progressions. Chambers' vocals, although not anything particularly special, seem to do the job. This is rockin', smokin' blues with a hard edge and never a dull moment. ~ Ann Wickstrom, All Music Guide
Bio / Background
Like most guitar players with a developing taste for Blues-Rock guitar, Sean grew up listening to the likes of Johnny Winter, the three Kings (BB, Freddie, & Albert), Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Billy Gibbons to name a few. Chambers was particularly smitten with the legendary sounds of Jimi Hendrix, and later, Stevie Ray Vaughan. In fact, it was these two players that inspired the young Chambers to delve into their unique styles in depth, which had a noticeable influence on his tone and touch. Sean doesn't merely play the guitar as much as he boldly attacks the instrument with a fluid ferocity and attitude that makes one stop dead in their tracks.
Over the last 15 years, Chambers has continued to evolve through regular touring, not only honing his guitar mastery, but also refining his vocal and songwriting talents along the way. In October 1998, Chambers released his initial recording effort Strong Temptation which to date has shipped more than 15,000 copies.
↓ more ↓Since then, Chambers has had a number of milestones in his career, one of which was becoming the musical director and guitarist for the legendary Hubert Sumlin of Howlin' Wolf fame. Touring the world with Sumlin for almost five years, they performed before sellout crowds at major clubs and festivals in the US, Europe, Japan, and Canada.
Following in the footsteps of many of his idols, Chambers has been especially well received outside the US, and particularly in Europe where he has both toured with Sumlin and on his own. Europe's premiere music authority, Guitarist magazine, listed him as one of the 50 top guitarist of the last century, edging out the distinguished likes of Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Keb Mo among others. Europe's Total Guitar magazine gave Strong Temptation five stars and cited the record as "the most impressive Blues debut since SRV's Texas Flood."
Chambers continues to develop his powerful style on his March 2004 release Humble Spirits, which showcases his musical evolution beyond the standard blues idiom. Produced by industry veteran Bud Snyder (Allman Brothers / Gov't Mule), the album features several notable musicians including Bernard Allison, Frankie & Danny Toler (Allman Brothers), Bobby T. Torello (Johnny Winter '74-'81), along with Greg Allman Band alumnus Bruce Waibel. Sadly, Bruce unexpectedly passed away while still recording the sessions with Sean, and Humble Spirits is dedicated in Bruce's memory.
A progressive performer and musician, Chambers continues to reinvent himself and develop his talents. 2004 has already seen him playing an opening spot with legendary rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd. Furthermore, Chambers is the only Tampa native performing at this years world renowned Tampa Bay Blues Festival. Sean's regular touring band consists of longtime bassist Tim Blair, drummer Paul Broderick and keyboardist Ben Crider.
