In his mid-teens, Darryl re-located to Tennessee, where he started playing in cover bands, playing everything from hard rock to top 40. At 21, Darryl moved to New York in order to join the thriving hard rock scene and with his band, Band of Thieves played the key clubs, Limelight and the Cat Club, earning many positive notices in the press sharing the cover of “Metal Studs” magazine with Motley Crue.

In the ‘90’s Darryl began working as a session guitarist for the top studios and jingle houses in New York. His work has been on HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, ESPN, etc. and his guitar could be heard blasting through the speakers at Madison Square Garden when the NY Knicks came onto the court. He also played for a while with The Boomdogs and shared the stage with artists such as Johnny Thunders and the Spin Doctors.

Like many artists, Darryl turned his interests to other forms of expression. As a video editor he worked on the award winning documentary film “Power Trip”. Darryl put the guitar down almost completely to edit while also taking up amateur astronomy and painting. But after a few years without making music, he came to realize that he couldn’t live without it, and began writing songs again, and once he started writing songs, the Sea Dragons were born.

Darryl’s multi-instrumental talents lend themselves to the capabilities of modern home recording and in recording his new music he comes alive. As he explains, “I love the process of making a song into a record. Once I hit the record button, I feel free. I always liked the Brill Building technique where you take the best song you can write and turn it into a great record. When I write and record in that fashion, the results are amazing.”

You can hear those results in songs like “Sweet Delilah.” Over a Byrds-y guitar riff and dreamy organ, Darryl tells the story of the girl you think has it all, but no one knows what her life might really be like, that pays off in an instantly unforgettable chorus. Darryl declares, “I’m most proud of that one. I was strumming the guitar in the key of G, and out it came, first I had the chorus, and then the verses. I recorded it that weekend. When it was done, I thought it was the best pop/rock song I’ve written. I set the bar for myself” Other standouts include the garage-rock feel of “Stop Draggin’ Me Down” and the poetic and hopeful tone of “Come September.”

With Rob Ritchie on bass and Justin Greville on drums to provide live support, Darryl is out to take the Sea Dragons as far as he possibly can. “I want to get my music out to as many people as possible,” he states. “With the web, people of all ages all over the world are contacting me to tell me that my music has affected them; it’s given me new life as a musician. You have to be what you are, and I breathe music. It’s what I am. Now it’s time to set sail.”
