Bio / Background
i was raised about an hour north of Manhattan. Most of my family moved up here from NYC and Jersey. In the 60's my dad was in an influencial group called The Blues Magoos. When I was young he played more as a weekend interest but, non the less, gave me valuable close-up exposure to live instruments, songwriting and singing. My mother also had great taste in classics such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Santana right up to Michael Jackson and Huey Lewis. I didn't have a definite interest in playing music but the more I noticed it's power to make me feel the more I realized it had always affected my conciousness. By my early teens unlocking it's power became my passion.
My dad and uncle had always been Soul music fans...old 45's of James Brown, Otis Redding and BB King all started to resonate with me despite them being so 'old'.... the idea of old never mattered to me. By the time you buy a brand new release, the music has already been years in the making...
↓ more ↓every hit gets old and the best get better.
So - I spent the next few years discovering and feeding this need for Song and Soul...Miles, Coltrane, Bird, and John Mclaughlin where part of a healthy Jazz interest ... The Beatles, Dylan, Paul Simon, Stevie, Billy, Elton, and Steely Dan where all breakthroughs in song appreciation.
Some singers i admire are Marvin Gaye and Daryl Hall.
Sting is likely my favorite songwriter.
Jimi Hendrix has been the most important artist in my life.
