folk-rock
Bio / Background
With The Melcliff, Sasser expands beyond his debut with a spare, soulful and incisive recording that has more in common 1960’s folk-rock than country music.
The Melcliff, titled for the SE Portland apartment Sasser lived in while writing the record, begins with the simple and personal Chinatown that showcases the lush harmonies found throughout the CD. Songs Your Side of the Stone, Give It Time, Get It On and Ouijaboard with Linda McCartney thump with a backbeat that recalls CCR and early Beatles. In contrast Ivory, Practical Pistol and Radio Cab give off a haunting vibe from well-used imagery and minor chords. Rounding out The Melcliff is Drugstore Blues, a folk song where melody and lyric combine Sasser’s past, present and future.
