Modern/Vintage Country Music.
Bio / Background
Southside of Sorrow is a modern-vintage record of roots music. Released in the summer of 2004, Sasser has gained plenty of mileage from his debut CD. In March of 2005, “That Kinda Day” was chosen as music for a regionally broadcast television commercial for Henry Weinhard’s Beer. Also, that song was included on Failing Records Compilation of Portland: Volume 1 in 2005. “Lost and Found” was chosen for use in the soundtrack for Liquid Insanity, a nationally released kayak movie/doc, in 2006. Others are in consistent rotation on internet radio as far away as Belgium and The Netherlands. Currently, James is hard at work on his second release and playing shows, as always.
Honest and Soulful.

Southside of Sorrow is the kind of disc that remains a pleasure time after time.
-Muziek Wereld November 2004, –Ctrl. Alt. Country.com September 2004
On this CD, it is “That Kind of Day,” with distorted harmonica soloing wildly in the background; this is the kind of song you can let loose to. And if country contributed anything to American music, it’s songs that beg a hearty “Yeehaw!”
-Music Liberation Project June/July 2004
This local gent markets himself as Modern-Vintage Country. The title simply means that Sasser has salvaged the best of Dwight Yoakam’s drawl and Buddy Holly’s pop from the country music junk pile.
-Willamette Week May 2004
Very impressed with the organic honesty of his songs crafting and performance…(James Sasser) has a unique voice which is quite signature and individual
-Taxi.com June 2004
When I went to see Pete Anderson and Moot Davis the other night, I was somewhat disappointed to find out there were two opening bands before the headliners. Especially when I found out they were local groups that I had not heard of. Was I ever wrong. This James Sasser band really rocked, was really tight, and had great harmonies and original songs. I was so impressed. I really think this kid might make it big.
