Rupert Leighton
Rupert Leighton was born in Guildford, England in 1986.
As a child he was more interested in sport than music.
For his twelfth birthday he was given a keyboard by his parents, which for a couple of years remained just a passing interest. However, by 14, he had become more interested in music and discovered that he could play the keyboard by ear. He listened to various pianists and taught himself the rudiments of blues and jazz piano. After upgrading his keyboard he started composing his own tunes with bass lines, drums and other instruments.
At the age of 16 he did his first live performance and played in several school concerts where he surprised many people with his talent. Having never had a piano lesson in his life, many people didn't know of his ability. A few months later he started playing gigs in clubs and at private parties. Influenced by his parents' vast record collection, he also began to experiment with more funky electronic sounds.
