Bio / Background
RUBY JAMES
Los Angeles based solo artist, Ruby James, has released her first EP since her soulful and delightful sound began in Orlando, Florida with her band, RUBY JAMES. As the lead for the band RUBY JAMES, she was followed from venue to venue by scores of adoring fans who were intrigued with the caliber of her lyrics and the sound of her voice. When the band decided to call it quits, Ruby James began her solo career using not only her ability to play guitar, but the finest female voice to hit modern rock since Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks and Sheryl Crow.
It is this voice, coupled with a hint of glamour, sweetness and grit that make her EP and songs reach into your heart and soul. Once you hear a Ruby James tune, you won’t forget it, you will continue to play her music and follow her impending rise to stardom.
↓ more ↓Her EP, entitled “SWEET AS SIN” features songs that tell the story of relationships and love in real world words and the title track, describes not only the voice of this rising star, but the EP. If this were the only great song on the EP it would be enough, but it is full of potential hits including “The Last Time”, which is a song about mending the broken hearts of relationships and moving forward with life’s bitter lessons. The first track of the EP, “”Say I Love You” shows the broad range of her talent with both lyrics and music. Ruby James is truly a hidden treasure in today’s rock world. She not only has one of the greatest voices out there today, but she draws the audience in with lyrics written from the deepest recesses of the human mind and body. Her stage appeal and sexiness are only a small part of the Ruby James experience and have allowed her to open for such bands as Soul Asylum, 7Mary3, WAR, and Fastball.
As if the songs on the E.P. weren’t impressive enough, the list of talented musicians that contributed to the making of the E.P. are just impressive. The E.P. was recorded with Brian Joseph Dobbs who has worked with such famous names as Metallica, Motley Crue, Veruca Salt, Tal Bachman and others. Backing Ruby James up were some of the best musicians you can find and include such names as Carlos Calvo on guitars and Sam Aliano on Drums. Sam has played with such big names as Billy Sheehan, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Jack Jones, Fisk & Cristian and Geoff Achisonon. For the E.P. on the bass guitar was Chris Wyse who was featured this year on the cover of bass player magazine and has been called "hard rock royalty", having played with such stars as the Cult, Ozzie Ozbourne, Jerry Cantrell, and Owl, his own band.
Most recently Ruby James has been playing in Los Angels, CA at such places as The Derby, The Viper Room, The Mint, Tangier and Café Cordiale to hoards of adoring fans. These shows have been followed with a list of shows from Orlando to New York’s Central Park, with stops in between in Austin, Charleston and will be followed up with appearances in Houston and Baltimore. During a recent live appearance on Charleston, South Carolina’s ABC Channel 4, Low Country Live, Justin Lock said, “With the soulful styling of Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow and Chrissy Hynde, Ruby James is blazing trails across the nation.” Ron Bowen, Program Director for 105.5 The Bridge in Charleston, South Carolina stated that when he heard the E.P. he was, “blown away by the talent of Ruby James.” Since that time Ruby James has appeared on Home Grown, the station’s live broadcast segment, three times and has appeared on ABC Channel 4’s Low Country Live on several occasions, building a fan base in the southeast. In fact, it was Tabitha Blevins of the Goose Creek Gazette that stated, “Ruby James has a rich voice that stands out beyond the catchy beat of her music.” And Skirt Magazine said of Ruby James, “Her voice melts you and revs you, all at the same time—it's like Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett, and Annie Lenox rolled into one.”
Currently Ruby James can be found working on a full length CD in Austin, Texas with some of the biggest names in the music industry. Watch for the release of the new CD in early 2007.
