A neo-vintage blend of soul, funk, jazz and even rock....call it Alternative Soul.
Bio / Background
"Feeling deficient in your sex appeal lately? This man will instill
that sassy, head-tossing attitude all over again- and then some. With lip-licking funk, flirtatious R&B soul and yet the musical
intelligence and integrity of Stevie Wonder and earlier soul
pioneers, this boy breaks out the gin for the love-starved soul in
these positively intoxicating tracks... that will have you batting
your eyelashes and opting for the tighter-fitting jeans. But don't
misunderstand- this is no shallow, smoovey bedroom music, though it could be a big hit for those who do want that. This man is equally
thoughtful and talented, equally enjoyable for the more modest
listener. All around, this man walks with the best.

"The Remedy" is the latest offering from singer/songwriter/keyboard ace Nick Rolfe, and while the overall tone of the record is urban in nature (soulful melodies, thick beats, throwback vibe), the listener will find it has many layers.
Says Rolfe; " The concept of this music is multi-faceted. I wanted to create music that had a very distinctive vintage sound (live band; no sequencing, Fender Rhodes, B3 organ, Neve mixing boards, etc) with all the influences I've been saturated with over the years".
"At the same time, I wanted a modern day sense of groove and grit that only a cat coming up in the big city could present. Hip hop is a very real part of my life and, while this is definitely not a "hip hop" record, its presence is palpable".
Rolfe's backing band, Slick Jackson (teddycrockett: guitar, Mike Griot: bass, and Eric Brown: drums, percussion and background vocals), is a HUGE part of this records undeniably funky, yet effortless feel.
"These cats are the real deal to me ", continues Rolfe. "I presented them with the music and the basic concept and they ALL came back with input that was beautifully relevent to that concept. Each of them felt the music in a very personal way, which is rare to find when trying to put a band together. It helps that all of them are seasoned sidemen in many different musical environments, as well as being versed in many styles of music and it's respective histories. Due to the willingness to go with the flow and create on a highly organic level, this band has developed a truly distinctive, unique sound. This will be evident when listening to this new work".
It's Soul, it's Funk, it's Jazz, its Rock and Roll...it's progressive black music in all its culminations.
There is a strong movement closing in on the music scene right now, just beyond the fringes of the mainstream abyss. This movement is one of artists creating music that can't be categorized in one word, can't be attributed to one influence, and can't be fit into "the Box".
"The Remedy" is a strong statement in that movement, and it's meant to pull the listener out of "the Box"...to challenge the listener to demand more from the music thrust on him or her daily over the mainstream radio waves. This record is proof that.......
........there IS a Remedy.
