Editorial review
The Positive Sound Massive label has perhaps set a new standard for media hype with this claim, from the press materials that accompanied a review copy of the new Rocker-T album: "More Luv is more than an album, it is a way of life." Um, OK. But actually, this is the most serious and introspective album of Rocker-T's career so far, and at times he sings and toasts as if he's carrying a substantial weight on his slender shoulders. As always, he is dealing primarily with the typical concerns of roots-and-culture reggae: love of God and fellowman, spiritual purity, and the need to resist the blandishments of Babylon. But on songs like "Kind of Man" and the touchingly bittersweet "Don't Give up on Me," his message is more romantic and earthy and occasionally borders on despair. Several tracks on this album are too long, but many are so good that the extra length is welcome: "Rainbow Country" is an open-hearted invitation to join in building heaven on earth, while "Rise up an' Stand" and "Bad Wrong Sign" (both produced by the legendary Glen Adams) offer exhortation and condemnation in equal degree. The rhythms are primarily digital, but Rocker-T knows how to keep the groove rootsy and real (though actual horns would have been nice on "You Don't Have to Worry"). More Luv doesn't quite generate the same sheer excitement as Nicer by the Hour did, but it's a worthy entry in Rocker-T's all-too-slowly growing catalog. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music Guide
Bio / Background
Positive Sound Massive Recordings is pleased and proud to present the long awaited follow-up to Rocker-T's 1999 smash hit "If Yu Luv Luv Show Ya Luv" titled simply "More Luv". After two long years in the making, and almost constant touring, Rocker-T and PSM have finally completed what may very well be the most dynamic, conscious, reggae release of this new year. More Luv is more then an album, it is a way of life, and a reminder to all people that only love will heal this world we live in.
"More Luv" starts were "Luv Luv" leaves off... Rocker ties this album to his last by starting with a beautiful 7 minute ballad titled "Wherever You Go, Whatever You Need". Next up is "Rainbow Country" a song that Rocker wrote in Hawaii in early 2000, where he invites everyone to join him on his quest for heaven on earth. "More Luv", a sing-jay track, is an anthem to the youth to spread love to the four corners of the world, and beyond... "Love is very lovely and war is very ugly.
↓ more ↓" "Nevashame" is a bass heavy riddim where Rocker tells all "you could put me down but I would never be ashamed..." Next is "Bad Wrong Sign", a warning to all false prophets and pseudo- conscious MCs who confuse and lead people astray. "One Time Mi Locks Mi Head" is a powerful song in which Rocker chants "dem think dat God is dead... but God no dead." The next song, "Rise Up and Stand", is another anthem that speaks to all Rasta youth worldwide, and he urges them to join together in these troubled times, no matter race, creed, or color. "Tek it out Again" is a jump-up dancehall track that reminds everyone of his message on "Luv Luv"...
Indeed, he will continue to "sweep out" until all of the slackness is gone. Next is "Jah the Only One" a mid-tempo riddim which features Rocker's want to teach the youth that Jah is there for everyone... "You Don't Have to Worry", a track that finds Rocker both singing and DJing, is perhaps the most well known track on this album. It has already had over 2000 downloads on Mp3.com over the past year.
"Joyous Works", a favorite of many audiences over the past few tours, speaks of Rocker's love to perform and to spread a conscious message, no matter how hard the struggle might be... "My Empress" is a beautiful song livicated to all womankind, with a hope that the brethren never forget where we all come from. The next song, "Kind of Man", says although he may not always be perfect, Rocker will keep trying to better his relationships with his sisters. The final track, "Don't Give up on Me", closes the album with a plea for the woman he loves not to give up on him.
This album was recorded and mixed in almost a dozen studios across the US, from Brooklyn to San Francisco, and even Mazomanie, Wisconsin... It features productions from reggae notables including: Glenroy Adams (Bob Marley/Upsetters,) Alex V. (Skadanks) Jah Yzer and Ces One (Strong Foundation) and Stand Out Selector. The albums' cover is a hand drawn masterpiece done by world renoun fine artist Jah Terms. Look for a 12" single in the spring, which will feature a remix of one of the album's tracks as well as a brand new tune on the B-side. We hope that you enjoy listening to this album as much as we enjoyed making it. "More Luv" in 2003 and beyond!
