With a highly stylized “island-funk" groove, singer-songwriter Rob Yamanoha displays the most talent from Hawaii since Jack Johnson, with soul, jazz, and light acoustic rock influences.
Bio / Background
“It’s an evolution of sorts; a constant state of change, always growing, moving with the times.” ~RY
This is how Rob Yamanoha describes the vision of his music and its place in the local and global music scene. Born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii and now residing on the Big Island, Rob has steadily established himself as a reputable musician and principal proponent of the progression of island music.
After seven years performing, writing, and recording with the band MOEMOEA, Rob moved on to pursue a solo career making music that he deemed to be more satisfying. Injecting each piece of his music with pop sense and intimacy, he has developed an intelligent and methodical songwriting skill with a stylish “island” groove. With a healthy dose of jazz, soul, and light acoustic rock, along with an honest singer-songwriter approach, Rob’s style is refreshing.
↓ more ↓His influences can be traced to island music of the 70’s, as well as to today’s forerunners in pop music.
“I really believe there’s a place in the global market for music from Hawaii. Just look at Jack Johnson or Jake Shimabukuro. Local acts in the 70’s like Cecilio and Kapono signed with Columbia Records because they were a reflection of their times…island counterparts to their mainland contemporaries, which is how I view myself in the global music scene.” ~RY
In the summer of 2006 Rob released a 5-song EP with the single “Beautiful”, which got rave reviews. Release of his full-length debut CD entitled “BETTER” is scheduled for September 18th, 2007 on the record label, Red Moon Entertainment.
