Bio / Background
My Story
Born in the South, shuffled from coast to coast by the age of six, I was not your average kid by the time I went to first grade. At 8 I said yes to Jesus and a deep love affair was started between us. At 13 I heard His call on my life and again said yes to him. I didn't know what He had in mind but I knew it involved music in some way. It was also at 13 that the music on the radio became alive to me and I began listening all the time. But it was more than just listening. God used the listening to educate me in song crafting and at 17 it all began to become a little clearer as to what He had in mind. Upon hearing a story on the news about a teenage suicide, I was overcome with compassion for someone I didn't know and began to hear music in my head as if a radio were turned on, only there wasn't. Then the words began to flow almost faster than I could write them down. I had never written a song before, but was instantly aware of what I was doing.
↓ more ↓All those years of listening to hits on the radio were suddenly paying off.
Fast-forward to 2003 and I've been writing for 26 years now and learned an awful lot along the way. I have worked as a soundman for various bands and churches. I went to school for Audio and Video Production. I ran a professional broadcast TV camera for 2 years at a ministry broadcasting into more than 160 million homes weekly. And I built a home studio in my basement, recorded my own songs and assisted others with their recording projects.
My writing style ranges from Rock to Rap, from Praise to Pop, from Country to Contemporary and sometimes even Gospel, Urban and Alternative. It all depends on who's helping me do the music at the moment, seeing that I am not a skilled musician. But I tend to be a ballad writer, regardless of the genre.
I've always looked for others to record my songs on their CD's/Records, never seeing myself as an artist or thinking of recording a project myself. Not until late in 2001 did I feel lead by God to assemble a collection of basically demos from the past 12 years onto a CD and "release" it to friends, family and whoever else wants one. It's called "REFLECTIONS," and it serves to sort of say, "See, I told you I am a songwriter." to all those who know me as well as those who don't. I've sent out over 300 CD's, all burned on my PC, to friends from all over the map, even as far away as Australia. Now that my CD is "out there," the Lord has given me a vision for two more CD projects. One will be a rocker and the other will contain original Christmas songs.
One of my songs earned an honorable mention in the 2000 Great American Song Contest. As of July 2002, I had songs on 10 different projects, with two more projects due out, and songs on 10 web sites. In June of 2002 the station Operations Manager at KIJN in Farwell, Texas requested my CD "for immediate air-play." The week of Christmas, 2002, I had the #1 song on MIZMOR.com, an Independent Christian Music web site. All of which leads me to say, God is good!
So hang on to your seats, there's plenty more to come.
His,
