A classic live recording in the spirit of Springsteen's 1970's live works.

Bio / Background
Josh Ritter is a songwriter from Moscow, Idaho. Recorded over two sold-out nights at the Vicar Street theater in spring 2006, IN THE DARK is Josh's first full-length live album. The album features 14 songs from the shows, from the crowd sing-alongs "Kathleen" and "Me and Jiggs" to the snowflake-intimacy of "One More Mouth" and (the rather epic) "Thin Blue Flame."
The New York Times:
"Through previous albums, his love songs and narratives have grown ever more phantasmagorical, and now he's writing oracular meditations. Love and war, faith and music, restlessness and a longing for home pervade his new songs... he sets out to carry a world of ideas on a few basic chords.

“…there is no limit to the depth and ambition of his songs, whether he is confessing a simple crush or following his thoughts on a long, Whitmanesque incantation…”
National Public Radio:
“Close your eyes while listening to parts of Josh Ritter's new CD, The Animal Years, and you could swear you're hearing a young Bob Dylan, or perhaps Bruce Springsteen.”
Boston Globe:
“Full to overflowing with mad, whirling rushes of apocalyptic poetry (''Thin Blue Flame"), bold statements (''Girl in the War"), and stark, solitary moments (''Idaho") that showcase the range of Ritter's gifts.”
Details Magazine:
“…three-and-half-minute nuggets of transcendental goodness carved from the marrow of life’s joys and tribulations.”
Entertainment Weekly:
“…sumptuous, sweeping arrangements to go along with his ruminative road stories and stream-of-consciousness, Dylanesque folk… his personal tone poems resonate like big screen epics.”
The Washington Post:
“Steeped in Biblical imagery and full of fresh metaphors, songs such as ‘Girl in the War,’ ‘Lillian Egypt’ and ‘Good Man’ sound just a few decades short of being hailed as classics… How refreshing and inspiring it is to encounter a young artist whose achievements match his ambitions.”

Josh Ritter's live album is great....lots of good live songs put together. His band is tight and play well together...the vocals are on...all that's missing is his trademark show banter and his goofy grin.
