Driving, energetic, heartfelt Folk & Country-tinged Pop-Rock displaying influences as varied as Counting Crows, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, R.E.M., Steve Earle, Jayhawks, Lyle Lovett, Wilco & Jackson Browne
Bio / Background
Do you like music that rocks, lyrics that are meaningful and songs you'll want to hear over and over again?
Do you like being the first one to discover a new band that's more than the same, tired, formulaic slop on the radio and turning your friends on to great new music?
Then The RIGBEES are the band for you!
The RIGBEES are a Philadelphia, PA-based five piece band that delivers driving, energetic, heartfelt Folk & Country-tinged Pop-Rock displaying influences as varied as Counting Crows, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, R.E.M., Steve Earle, Wilco, The Jayhawks and Jackson Browne.
The band formed around a collection of solo acoustic demos recorded by singer/songwriter Steve Brown. On the basis of the demos, the band adopted a "songs-come-first" philosophy which has evolved into a unique, dynamic blend of rootsy, engaging and instantly accessible Pop-Rock.
↓ more ↓The RIGBEES have received national FM airplay on the PRI Syndicated "World Cafe" Program and have been well-received by many regional radio stations including bellwether public radio station WXPN (www.xpn.org) in their hometown of Philadelphia. They have performed with national acts like Grammy-winners Train, and have shared bills with bands including Buzz Zeemer, Tommy Conwell, The Latin Playboys, The Badlees, Brothers Past and Town Hall to name just a few.
The Rigbees manifesto is to make "music that matters" for discerning listeners in search of "thinking man's pop-rock" that's also fun to groove to.
If you want to be the first one in your crowd to discover a serious new band at the start of what promises to be a long, successful career then grab this disc!
HERE'S WHAT THE MUSIC INDUSTRY HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE RIGBEES...
David Dye (PRI's World Café Host & WXPN FM DJ)
"The Rigbees have the advantage of writing songs that are instantly recognizable melodically and stylistically, and there is more than one on AM Radio Companion; it's an auspicious beginning."
Philadelphia Weekly
"...a combination of bright-eyed earnestness, downright catchiness and genuine talent...wearing influences that could just as easily be Son Volt, Pearl Jam, Pete Yorn or all three. Guided by jangle and twang, the songs hold a contagious charm." (Doug Wallen)
The Point (prestigious Philadelphia area venue)
"I have to be discerning about the unproven bands that come into the room. The Rigbees delivered more than just a full-house; they delivered a great night of music." (Jesse Lundy, Talent Buyer)
www.phillymusic.com
"...certainly one of the best feel-good bands I have ever heard, (offering) a mixture of the fun popiness of Barenaked Ladies and the acoustic rock of Hootie and the Blowfish. It's good to know that we still have a band that will help to inspire and uplift spirits." (Amy Belmonte)
Bucks County Courier Times
"The songs are filled with infectious hooks and heartfelt, honest lyrics about standing tall in the face of all of life's day-to-day crap. If you're looking for musicians who get it-the way Bruce Springsteen gets it, the way John Hiatt gets it, the way Lucinda Williams gets it-check out the next Rigbees performance." (Andy Vineberg)
The Ticket (Montgomery Newspapers)
"...a refreshing brand of pop rock...similar to Barenaked Ladies delivered with the stylistic veracity of the Counting Crows." (Christopher Dilts)
